‘PCV, PCW or PVC? Which name is correct?’

The names PVC, PWC, or PCV refer to the same type of synthetic material, which is polyvinyl chloride. It is one of the most popular materials used in construction and beyond. PVC windows, for example, are well-known.

While the international name PVC is an abbreviation for polyvinyl chloride in English, and PCW stands for polichlorek winylu in Polish, the commonly used abbreviation PCV is linguistically and logically incorrect. It probably originated and became widespread due to a mistake. However, it is used so often that using it in everyday speech is not a major error.
