‘How much does a whale weigh?’

How much does a whale weigh? A question that is of interest to both children and adults. Probably because it is the heaviest animal living on Earth today.

Whale Weight

The weight of a whale depends on the species. The blue whale is the heaviest whale, weighing up to 150 tons. Its tongue alone can weigh up to 2,700 kg, which is as much as a family car.

Other whale species are also not light. For example, the Japanese whale can weigh up to 80 tons, and the sperm whale can grow to a weight of 41,000 kg.

There are, of course, species that weigh less, such as the oceanic orca weighing about 5 tons, or the narwhal weighing about 940 kg. Nonetheless, these are still impressive numbers.
