What is equine therapy?

Equine-assisted therapy, or onotherapy, involves the use of donkeys as a means of therapeutic support. These friendly animals are considered more suitable than horses for working with children due to their smaller size, calmer disposition, and greater patience (as the saying goes, they can be downright stubborn). Because of these qualities, onotherapy is considered to be safer than hippotherapy (therapy involving horses). Onotherapy is administered to children with social dysfunctions, intellectual disabilities, visual impairments, as well as orthopedic conditions such as scoliosis or limb amputation.
