“Is Tomato a Fruit or Vegetable?”

Traditionally, tomatoes are classified as vegetables – they are not as sweet as most fruits and are also one of the main ingredients in many main dishes, sauces, and salads. However, from a botanical perspective – the science that deals with plant classification – tomatoes are definitely fruits, specifically berries (Latin: bacca).

In addition to tomatoes, the same classification issue applies to plants such as cucumbers, beans, eggplants, and pumpkins.
