“How to Convert a Dog’s Age into Human Years?”

Dogs are one of the most diverse animals within a single species and, depending on their breed, size, and other characteristics, they can live from 10 to even 20 years. On average, however, they live for 13-14 years, which is equivalent to about 70 human years.

How to convert dog years to human years? The answer to this question is not easy, given the aforementioned diversity within the species. However, a well-known Polish cynologist, Prof. Kazimierz Ściesiński, proposed treating the first 6 months of a dog’s life as the first 10 years of a human’s life. When a dog reaches sexual maturity at the age of 12 months, it would correspond to the 15th year of a human’s life. The scheme continues as follows:

“`
Pies Człowiek
6-miesięcy 10 lat
12 miesięcy 15 lat
2 lata 24 lata
3 lata 28 lat
4 lata 32 lata
5 lat 36 lat
6 lat 40 lat
7 lat 44 lat
8 lat 48 lat
9 lat 52 lata
10 lat 56 lat
11 lat 60 lat
12 lat 64 lata
13 lat 68 lata
14 lat 72 lat
15 lat 76 lat
16 lat 80 lat
17 lat 84 lata
18 lat 88 lat
19 lat 92 lata
20 lat 96 lat
21 lat 100 lat
