‘How to address an envelope?’

If you are unsure how to properly address an envelope with a letter, we are here to help. Despite the fact that a huge portion of interpersonal communication has moved to the virtual world in today’s times, in some situations we are even forced to send traditional mail. We use this form of communication very often during the holiday season, sending greeting cards or for official communication between companies.

## How to properly address an envelope with a letter

Let’s get straight to the point. Below, we present the most readable instruction in graphic form. The picture shows the front of the envelope, on which we place the sender’s (your) and recipient’s (addressee’s) information.

### Where to place the recipient’s and sender’s information on the envelope?

The **sender’s information**, usually our own, is placed in the top left corner of the envelope in the following order:

– In the first line, we write the sender’s first name and last name.
– In the second line, we write the street and house/apartment number of the sender.
– In the third line, we write the postal code and city of the sender.
– In the fourth line, if we are sending an international letter, we can write the sender’s country. If we are sending within Poland, it is not necessary.

The **recipient’s information**, i.e. the addressee’s, is placed on the right side, approximately in the center, leaving space for postage stamps at the top. We write it in a similar order:

– The first line is for the recipient’s first name and last name.
– In the second line, we write their address, i.e. street and house/apartment number.
– The third line is for the recipient’s postal code and city.
– In the fourth line, if we are sending an international letter, we can write the recipient’s country. When sending a domestic letter, we do not need to include this information.

## Some additional tips

Now you know how to properly address an envelope. In conclusion, we would like to add a few additional tips that are worth remembering.

– When addressing the envelope manually, it is advisable to write in large, so-called “block” letters to make them clear, unambiguous, and legible. If our handwriting is illegible, the letter will not be delivered correctly and will either be returned or delivered to the wrong recipient.
– If we are addressing an envelope to multiple recipients, for example, a married couple, remember to list the woman first.
– A “window” envelope should be prepared appropriately – the recipient’s address should be directly written on the letter placed inside the envelope, in the appropriate position. After inserting the letter into the envelope, this address should be visible through the transparent window. The sender’s information is placed as usual in the top left corner of the envelope.

That’s all from us regarding proper addressing of envelopes. We believe that it is not an art requiring difficulty, and in today’s times, a handwritten letter received from a loved one through traditional means is much more valuable than a digital message. Let’s not forget about it and write letters not only for official matters.
